Susan Gillmor, Assistant Professor, Department of Chemistry
Dr. Susan Gillmor joined the GWU chemistry department in January 2007. She completed her M.S. and PhD. in Material Science from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1999 and 2002 respectively, under the guidance of Professor Max Lagally. She received a NSF graduate fellowship from 1998-2000. After two years as a senior scientist in Trex Enterprises, Dr. Gillmor returned to academia. She completed a post-doc at Penn State in the chemistry department, working with Professor Paul Weiss. Her research interests lie in biomaterial and surface science. Her post-doctoral work explored biomembranes and lipid bilayer deformation mechanics. Currently her lab is developing models of red blood cell deformation.
