Associate
Professor of Medicine in the Division of Renal Diseases and
Hypertension
Dr. Guzman underwent Pharmacology and Bioinformatics training
at Harvard Medical School, and clinical Nephrology training
at the University of Florida. During the past 12 years, Dr
Guzman has directed a NIH-funded research laboratory focusing
in the areas of Molecular Pharmacology and Cell Signaling.
Dr. Guzman joined GWU in the year 2000 after having spent
five years at Georgetown University. He serves in the Advisory
Board of GWU's Center for Emergency Preparedness (Medical
Informatics). Dr. Guzman has also served in the Universal
Access and XML Web Services Working Groups of the Federal
Architecture and Infrastructure Committee of the CIO Council,
and in the Homeland Security WG of the National Health Information
Infrastructure program of the Department of Health and Human
Services. Dr. Guzman's background includes extensive experience
in Biomedical and Clinical Informatics with a special focus
in the areas of Knowledge Representation and Management, Information
Assurance, and the use of Open Source and Semantic Web Technologies
in Healthcare, Public Health and Homeland Security.
